I live in Florida with my husband of 36 years, Steve, our five children, and our four grandchildren--who all love fishing and feeding the ducks off the dock in the back yard.
Teaching is a lifelong passion for me, and I am blessed to be a middle school teacher at an amazing community school, in a position that could not possibly fit the delight of my heart any more closely. I am also grateful to teach for a local character-building after-school program that provides enrichment classes, sports, and tutoring to elementary-aged students. Through teaching, I see God's hand moving every day, and I am honored to be a part of these families' precious journeys through life.
I serve as a mentor to young wives and moms through our church's HeartFelt ministry, blessed to share what God has done in my life and to encourage women of all ages to draw close to God in every aspect of life. It is my heart to pass along what God has done and is doing, preferably in ways that involve sweet tea, warm soup, and humor.
A writer for as far back as I can remember, I am the author of A Beautiful Life - An invitation to truly live, and Fight like a Girl - 7 Enemy weapons formed against us and a battle plan for Victory, both available through Amazon for Kindle e-reader. I have led creative writing workshops for all ages both locally and online, and enjoy helping others fall in love with words. I am a blogger who tries really hard to blog often, but who stays busy enough that blogging sometimes has to take a back seat.
I am a deep-down Southern cook who collects aprons and kitchen gadgets. My mama was a gadget collector, and when she went home to Jesus I inherited both her collection and her love for them so I'm always on the lookout for cool kitcheny things--especially if they are old and well-used. I do keep a food blog called Cake Mountain, but many of my home-grown recipes have yet to make it into print because I'm too busy cooking and making up new ones. One day, I keep telling myself.
Together with Steve, I enjoy ministry connections through our home church, Grace Family Church in Lutz, Florida. Having known Christ since age ten, I see my primary calling in life as doing my best to reflect His love and light in every thought, word, and deed. I am human, and I will fail, but it will never be for lack of trying. I love all people even before I meet them, and am generally just in love with life.
On a personal note, I also love moody music, rain, dead trees, the ocean, mocha frappes, making people laugh, the twangy sound those little door stop thingies make, and most shades of blue.
